Do you qualify for subsidised legal aid?

Two minutes, five questions. You get your result and your estimated eigen bijdrage straight away, using the official 2026 tables. No email required to see it.

Step 1 of 5 Legal issue
Step 1

Do you have a legal issue?

Legal aid covers actual disputes. General questions are handled differently.

Choose the option that describes your situation.
Typically covered: rental, employment, family, consumer and administrative disputes. Typically not: very small financial claims and purely commercial disputes.
Step 2

What kind of help do you need?

Select everything that applies.

Type of help
Is this a family law matter? Divorce, custody, maintenance or parentage. It changes the contribution rate.

Please select at least one type of help.

Step 3

Your financial situation

2026 eligibility is assessed on your 2024 income. Rough figures are fine for an estimate.

Household situation
All sources: employment, benefits, self-employment.

Please enter your 2024 gross income.

Box 3: savings, investments, second property. Exclude your primary home.

Please enter your total assets. Enter 0 if you have none.

If your 2024 income was much higher than today and has since dropped by 15 percent or more, you can request a reference year shift (peiljaarverlegging) so a more recent year is used instead. The request has to reach the Raad voor Rechtsbijstand within six weeks of its first decision, and it is not available if you are already paying the lowest contribution.
Step 4

How the process works

Dutch law requires an initial assessment before a subsidised lawyer is assigned. These are the four steps.

  1. You contact Het Juridisch LoketIndependent government-funded service. Walk in at one of their offices or call their line on 0800-8020. This is their service, not ours.
  2. They assess and referJuridisch Loket reviews your situation and refers you to a registered legal aid lawyer.
  3. Your lawyer appliesThe lawyer requests a toevoeging on your behalf.
  4. Raad voor Rechtsbijstand decidesThe Legal Aid Board approves or refuses the application.
In many cases the Raad voor Rechtsbijstand applies a EUR 69 discount to your own contribution automatically when it grants a toevoeging. It does not apply to mediation or to a lichte adviestoevoeging.
Where are you with this?
Step 5

Do you already have a lawyer?

Not every lawyer takes subsidised cases. They must be registered with the Raad voor Rechtsbijstand.

This is an indicative estimate based on the official 2026 rate tables and the figures you entered. It is not legal or financial advice. The actual amount depends on your full financial position, the nature of your case, and the final assessment by the Raad voor Rechtsbijstand. FindLawyer is a service of Leadvise Legal B.V. and is not a law firm.
