IND and registration in Eindhoven (2026): Holland Expat Center South, the Inwonersplein and your BSN
Your registration in Eindhoven can go through the municipality or through Holland Expat Center South. This guide shows which route is yours, what to bring, where the IND desk is, and when an immigration lawyer helps.

Registration in Eindhoven happens at the Inwonersplein, in person and by appointment, within 5 days of arriving if you will stay at least 4 of the next 6 months. Knowledge workers and their families can instead use Holland Expat Center South, which combines municipal registration and the IND in one appointment; if you live in Eindhoven you leave that appointment with your BSN. For other IND procedures, the nearest IND desk is in ’s-Hertogenbosch.

Expat centre
Holland Expat Center South: registration and the IND in one visit
Eindhoven’s expat centre lets eligible newcomers register with the municipality and complete their IND formalities in a single appointment.
- Where. Stadhuisplein 10, third floor, Eindhoven, telephone +31 (0)40 238 67 75. The IND takes biometrics there and issues residence documents and endorsement stickers (IND). The welcome desk is open Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00; IND staff are not there on Fridays, when you can drop in without an appointment (Holland Expat Center South).
- What you gain. Eindhoven residents receive their BSN at the appointment and residents of other participating municipalities get it by post within 5 working days; through a local municipality it can take up to 30 days (Holland Expat Center South).
- Who qualifies. Highly skilled migrants, intra-corporate transferees, EU Blue Card holders, researchers, orientation year applicants, start-up entrepreneurs and their essential staff, EU/EEA/Swiss citizens whose employer is an IND recognised sponsor, and dependants. For the registration service you must live in a participating municipality with a lease that has started; for IND services you must work in the region (Holland Expat Center South).
- How to book. Only by email: send each person’s full name, V-number or date of birth and the service needed, and the centre replies with a secure link (Holland Expat Center South).
- Who runs it. A joint initiative of the participating municipalities, the IND, Brainport Eindhoven and the province of Noord-Brabant, and one of 12 expat centres in the country; its services are free for the international (Holland Expat Center South).
- The participating municipalities include Eindhoven, Veldhoven, Nuenen, Son en Breugel, Waalre, Valkenswaard, Bladel, Oss, Boxtel, ’s-Hertogenbosch, Vught, Tilburg, Oisterwijk, Waalwijk, Breda, Oosterhout and Bergen op Zoom; the list is subject to change (Holland Expat Center South).

Registration in Eindhoven: the Inwonersplein, the RNI and the IND desk
If the expat centre route is not open to you, you register at the Eindhoven Inwonersplein within 5 days of arriving.

- Book early. Because it is busy, appointments are limited; new ones appear every day, about 4 weeks ahead. Book online or on 14 040, from abroad +31 40 2386000, and come together if your partner or children move with you (Municipality of Eindhoven).
- What to bring. Original certificates from abroad, not copies, such as birth and marriage certificates; a valid passport or ID card for each person; and a written statement from the main resident if you move in with someone. From outside the EU, contact the IND first on 088 043 04 30. A confirmation letter follows within 4 weeks (Municipality of Eindhoven).
- Short stays. With a European passport and a stay under 4 months, the Eindhoven RNI desk registers you for free and hands you a BSN at once; without one, use the RNI desks in Breda or Venlo (Municipality of Eindhoven). Staying longer than 4 months, you cannot use an RNI desk (Netherlands Worldwide).
- Other IND procedures. Non-EU family members of EU citizens cannot use the expat centre; the IND office in ’s-Hertogenbosch is usually the closest option (Holland Expat Center South), and its desk sees visitors by appointment only (IND). Our IND appointment guide lists every desk.

Your first weeks in Eindhoven: BSN, DigiD, bank, insurance
The BSN you receive at registration is the key that opens every other step, so do it first.
- Register and receive your BSN Through the expat centre or the Inwonersplein you get your citizen service number (burgerservicenummer); our BSN guide explains what the number unlocks.
- Apply for DigiD As soon as you are in the Personal Records Database, you can request a DigiD (Netherlands Worldwide).
- Open a bank account A Dutch bank will ask for your BSN (Netherlands Worldwide).
- Arrange health insurance Take out Dutch basic insurance no later than 4 months after arriving (Government.nl).

Many well-known Brainport names appear on the IND register of recognised sponsors for work, which a non-EU employee’s employer usually needs to be.

In 2026 a highly skilled migrant of 30 or older must earn at least €5,942 gross a month and one under 30 €4,357; the reduced criterion, for example after an orientation year, is €3,122 (IND). Where do I register when I move to Eindhoven?
At the Inwonersplein of the municipality, in person and by appointment, within 5 days of arriving if you will spend at least 4 of the next 6 months in the Netherlands. Who can use Holland Expat Center South?

How fast do I get a BSN through the expat centre?
If you live in Eindhoven, you receive your BSN at the appointment itself. If you live in another participating municipality, it is posted to your home address within 5 working days. The expat centre says registering through a local municipality can take up to 30 days, which delays your bank account and health insurance.
Which municipalities take part in Holland Expat Center South?
Among others Eindhoven, Veldhoven, Nuenen, Son en Breugel, Waalre, Valkenswaard, Oss, ’s-Hertogenbosch, Tilburg and Breda. The centre says the list is subject to change, and that it can also register you if your municipality falls under the administration of a participating one. Send them a message if yours is not listed.
I am staying in Eindhoven for less than 4 months. Do I need a BSN?
You can register in the Non-residents Records Database (RNI) at the Eindhoven desk if you have a European passport; you get a BSN and proof of registration straight away, free of charge. Without a European passport, the RNI desks in Breda and Venlo register you. For a longer stay you register with the municipality instead.
